Acrylic on Canvas 16 x 20 inches
Drifting Seaweeds captures my experience swimming through dense, nutrient-rich seaweeds at the peak of summer, when the water is packed with algae. While some may avoid these areas, seeing them as dirty, smelly, or even eerie, I find beauty in the abundance of life they represent. Swimming alongside the thriving seaweeds feels like a privilege, a reminder of the ocean’s vital role in sustaining life on Earth. With every other breath we take, we rely on the oxygen produced by algae and phytoplankton, which contribute about 50% of the air we breathe. This piece reflects my appreciation for these underwater forests and their essential place in our planet’s ecosystem.
